Obituary for James Sublett

James Sublett
James Lewis Sublett, 93 years, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2012, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Sublett will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 29, 2012, at First United Methodist Church, Washington Street with Dr. Jackson Brewer, Rev. Wayne Sayre and Dr. James Shepherd officiating. There will be a visitation at the church on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m until the service. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather in Asbury Hall in the Wesley Center for a time of remembrance and celebration of Jim’s life.

A native of Woodford County, he was born October 19, 1918. Mr. Sublett was a graduate of Versailles High School, Class of 1935, a 1939 graduate of Transylvania College, received a Master of Arts degree from University of Kentucky in 1948 and was awarded Honorary Doctor of Laws from Eastern Kentucky University in 1970. He was a United States Army veteran serving from 1942 until 1946. Mr. Sublett began his teaching career in Dexter, Georgia and later was the Assistant Superintendent of Jefferson County Schools; Director, Kentucky Teachers' Retirement System; Director, State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio and Vice President, Financial Investment Advisors (FIA). He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of First United Methodist Church. He loved to fish, bird watch and was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan.

Mr. Sublett was a loving husband, father, grandfather and is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Churchman Sublett; two sons, Frank L. Sublett (Lisa) and their children, Matthew, Nicholas and Lauren of Alpharetta, GA and Martin R. Sublett (Lorene) and their children, Andrew and Amy of Pacific Grove, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents Randolph Cotton Sublett and Myrtle Collins Sublett and a sister, Jane Hoover.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests expressions of sympathy in his memory be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 211 Washington St., Frankfort, KY 40601.
