Patty Rice Smith

Frankfort – Patty Rice Smith, age 83, passed away of natural causes surrounded by her family at her home on Thursday, January 10, 2019. Services will be held at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mike Butler and Bro. Gary Ellcessor officiating. Burial will follow at Frankfort Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2019. Mrs. Smith was born in Frankfort on January 25, 1935, to the late Murray A. Wiard, Jr., and Margaret Lucille Stone Wiard. During her lifetime she worked at Brighton Engineering, Kentucky State Cabinet for Families and Children, and was an Office Manager for Dr. Mark Tussey. She was a passionate and life-long member of the Altrusa Club of Frankfort, where she held numerous offices and positions on both local and national levels. In addition, she was also a life member of Crestwood Baptist Church, where throughout her life, she served on several committees, taught Sunday School, worked in Vacation Bible School, and sang in the choir. She is survived by her children, Jackie Taylor, Margaret Norton Robinson (David), and Carl Rice (Kathy); siblings, Tommy Wiard, Mary Whisman, and Susan Williams; sister-in-law, Patricia Thomas; step-daughters, Debra Agee (Ace) and Paula Smith (Melissa Nance); grandchildren, Jack Allen Norton (Melissa), Cristin Norton, Kayla Semones (Andrew), Cory Rice, Kelsey Rice, Lisa Dawson, and Chelsea Agee; great-grandchildren, Dylan Norton, Shelbie Talson, Walker Norton, Charlotte Norton, Parker Dawson, Kimberlie Sageser, Taylor Semones, Joseph Semones, Mason Alexander, Mary Amber Robinson, David Robinson, Milla Dean, Taylor Dean, and Jaidyn Dean; and great-niece, Pam Phfister. She was also blessed with a host of family and friends who will miss her greatly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack Rice and Paul Smith; grandson, Jason DeLong; and sons-in-law, Kenny Taylor and Walker F. Norton, Jr. Serving as pallbearers will be Jack Norton, Cory Rice, Ira Linville, Dylan Norton, Richard Agee, Joseph Semones, and Ben Gilbert. Honorary pallbearers will be David Robinson, Kenny Taylor, Walker F. Norton, Jr., Tommy Wiard, Gene Roland, Rodney Murphy, Bryce Prothero, Andrew Semones, her great-grandchildren, Mark Turner, Crestwood Baptist Church Grace Sunday School Class, Members of the Altrusa Int. Club, Tyler Dean, Gayle Smith, and Danny Smith. The family would like to thank her Crestwood Baptist Church family for all their prayers, cards, food and visits. The family would also like to thank Adeldia Lopez for all of her help and tireless efforts in helping care for our mother.
