Geneva Louise Jones

GENEVA DICKEY JONES, 88, died Monday, August 3, 2009. She was born May 4, 1921, in Frankfort, Kentucky. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Paul Lee Jones; children Paul D. Jones (Marilyn) of Frankfort; Sandra Newby of Lexington; Betsy Steier Goehrig (Kevin) of Richmond; grandchildren Kathy Murphy (Keith) of Georgia, Jenni Jones of Frankfort, Michelle Armstrong (Pat) of Lexington, Marlene Smitson (Clay) of Lexington, Christina Bertera (Jeff) of Florida, Brittany Steier of Florida, Jamielee Jakubowski of Texas, Kerri Kinard of Richmond; great-grandchildren Clarissa Gibney, Sammuel Smitson, Bren Armstrong, Elizabeth Bertera; and sisters-in-law Betty Dickey and Alice Arington. She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Rosa Lee Dickey and brothers Edward Dickey, Jr., and Bill Dickey. Geneva was a 1939 graduate of Frankfort High School. She worked at Sears Roebuck in downtown Frankfort, prior to many years of service at National Distillery. She was a faithful Christian and active member of First Christian Church in Frankfort, where she and her husband Paul were recognized as "Pillars� of the church, with over 50 years involvement. She was active in the Christian Women�s Fellowship, the clothes closet, and the Brock-Keystone Sunday School Class. She and Paul spent winters in Florida, where they helped establish Treasure Coast Christian Church in Port St. Lucie. She served as an American Red Cross Volunteer at the Frankfort Regional Hospital. She enjoyed cross-stitching, cooking, gardening, and traveling. Most of all, she was devoted to her family and lovingly served them throughout her life. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 5, 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home, 312 Washington St., Frankfort. Services will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2:00 p.m. at First Christian Church, 316 Ann St., Frankfort, with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow at the church. A luncheon will be held Friday, August 7, Noon, at First Christian Church, 412 West Main St., Richmond. Rev. Dr. John Opsata will officiate, with Rev. Dr. Donald Nunnelly and Rev. Sarah Renfro assisting. Pallbearers include Kathy Jones Murphy, Kevin Goehrig, Patrick Armstrong, Clay Smitson, Jeff Bertera, Bruce Lee Dickey, Joseph Brian Dickey, and Kenneth Driskell. Honorary bearers include Jennifer Kaye Jones, Keith Murphy, Larry Jones, Bobby Jones, Donald Ray Allen, Jerry Arington, and great-nephews.
