Arthur Estes Jones

Frankfort " Services for Arthur Estes Jones, Sr., 78 yrs., will be conducted from First Corinthian Baptist Church at 1pm Thurs., July 14, 2011, with Rev. Leslie Whitlock, Rev. L. A. Newby, and Rev. Robert E. Houston officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wed., July 13, 2011, from 4-8pm at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home. Arthur ("Big Hands� or "Devil� as he was lovingly called) was born July 19, 1932, to the union of the late Samuel H. and Ruth P. Jones in Millville, KY. He graduated from Simmons High School in Versailles, KY, and attended Kentucky State College in Frankfort, KY where he played football. Arthur belonged to Macedonia Baptist Church in Millville, KY, and was a lifetime member of VFW Post 9235 and American Legion. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from Kentucky State University September 30, 1998. In addition to his love of work, he loved working on cars. Arthur never met a stranger. He said he always tried to do what he could to help someone because you never know exactly what they�re going through and you never know when you�re going to need help. Arthur leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 55 years, Dorothy, seven children, Arthurine Monie, Venessa (John) Grevious, Arthur Jones, Jr., Anthony Jones, Sr., Victoria Jones and Robin and Robert Tillman. He also leaves 11 grandchildren: John Grevious (Louisville), Jr., Regina Grevious (Nashville, TN), Joseph (Crystal) Cushingberry, Jr., Anthony Jones, Jr., Angela Jones, Amanda Smith (Lexington), Cori Monie, Christopher Cushingberry, Arthur Jones, Byron Tillman (Lexington) and Danisha Jones (Waco, TX), 12 great-grandchildren, six brothers: Robert (Anita) Jones (Louisville), Samuel (Celestine) Jones, Carl Jones (Detroit, MI), Joseph (Diana) Jones (Louisville), George Jones and Ethan Jones (Alexandria, VA), five sisters: Mary Washington (Lawrenceburg), Maxine (Greg) Johnson (Dayton, OH), Rita (Herman) Harvey (Lawrenceburg), Pamela Jones and Sarah Jones (Des Moines, IA), one aunt, Katie Jones, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves very dear friends: Lawrence Morton, Richard Kirtley, Weston Rogers, James Glover and Mary (Mada) Robinson, in addition to a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Martha Jones, daughter, Regina, sister, Mildred Chisley, brothers, Harold and Grant Jones, five uncles, two aunts, and a mother-in-law he thought the world of, Mattie L. Turner. Robert S. Jones, Carl A. Jones, George S. Jones, Samuel K. Jones, Joseph D. Jones, Ethan A. Jones, will serve as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be William Hart, John Redding, Lawrence Morton, Joseph Cushingberry, Sr., Robert Redding, Sr., Richard Kirtley, and Eric Barnett. The family would like to thank everyone for your prayers, hospital visits, phone calls and anything that was done to help during the illness and passing of our loved one. We would especially like to thank Bradford Square Nursing Home, Nurses on the 4th Floor of Frankfort Regional Medical Center, and Rev. Leslie Whitlock.
