Bernice G. Moore

Frankfort " Bernice Gaines Moore, age 100, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2016. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2016 at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Tindall officiating with the assistance of Rev. Vernon Carpenter. Burial will follow at Frankfort Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 12:00 noon until service time. Mrs. Moore was born in Franklin County, Kentucky on May 16, 1916 to the late Harvey Grandison Gaines Sr. and Sidney Clarissa Harrod Gaines. She was united in marriage to Orville Venton Moore, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, John T. Gaines, George S. Gaines, Harvey G. Gaines, Jr., and Rev. H. Posey Gaines, Sr.; by her sisters, Lucille Gaines Pulliam and Mary Gaines Duvall; and by her son-in-law, Kenneth Foster. A graduate of Bald Knob High School, Bernice was the last surviving member of the Class of 1933. She was also the oldest member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church where she served the Lord in many ways including Sunday School Secretary and VBS teacher. A homemaker and excellent cook, her specialties were yeast rolls and homemade pies. She was a skilled seamstress, making wedding gowns for family members as well as beautiful quilts and coverlets. Her last labor of love was a set of communion cloths for her church completed at age 98. She worked alongside her late husband on the family farms which she continued managing until her death, taking great pride in the Pioneer Farmer Award that she received in her own right at the age of 94. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Mary Susan Duvall Foster of Frankfort, Kentucky; by her two grandchildren, Kenneth Venton Foster (Susan) and Julienne Foster; by her great-grandchildren, Gavin Foster, Grayson Foster and Camden Johnson; by her nieces and nephews, Orville Duvall, Jr., Billy Duvall, Sr., Tommy Duvall and Patsy Duvall Perkins. She was also blessed with many great friends and extended family who have been a part of her remarkable life for the past 100 years. Special thanks are extended to Ruby Lewis and her daughter, Malinda, who provided many hours of devoted care giving during her final days.
