Billy Courtney

Frankfort - Billy Courtney, age 80, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014, at University of Kentucky Medical Center. Services for Mr. Courtney will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. Jay Stratton officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5-8 p.m. Mr. Courtney was born in Versailles, Kentucky January 27, 1934, the middle son of the late Everett Sleet and Evelyn Alice Clark Courtney. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in Japan during the Korean War. Mr. Courtney was a former employee of Blanton Lumber Co. for 28 years and retired after 23 years of employment with Frankfort Lumber. He was a former Assistant Boy Scout Leader of Troop 128. He was a devoted member of North Fork Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and teacher of the Men''s Sunday School Class. Mr. Courtney''s passion was woodworking with the ability to craft a work of art from a simple piece of wood. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Dorothy Joyce Turley Courtney; son, Timothy D. Courtney and his wife, Patricia; daughter Debbie Schneider and her husband, Bill; six grandchildren, Alisha Courtney, Chase Schneider, Scott Courtney, Courtney Schneider, Logan Courtney, Kayla Schneider; great granddaughter, Jazlynn Courtney; two step-granddaughters, Cassidy Nevius, Tabitha Sparks; four step-great grandchildren, Landon Sparks, Kailey Hawkins, Warren Parker and Jesslyn Parker; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett Charles and Wayne Courtney. Chase Schneider, Scott Courtney, Logan Courtney, Bill Schneider, Joel Whisman, David Turley, Jr., Mark Turley and Jeff Courtney will serve as pallbearers. Honorary bearers will be Deacons of North Fork Baptist Church, Ricky Courtney, Jesse Nowlin, Earl Turley, Jr. and David Turley. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages expressions of sympathy in Mr. Courtney''s memory to North Fork Baptist Church, 3660 Rocky Branch Road, Frankfort, KY 40601 or to a charity of choice.
