Frankfort " Charles Reed Lewis, age 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 23, 2016, at St. Joseph Hospice Care in Lexington. Funeral services for Mr. Lewis will be held at North Fork Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Wade Bibb, Rev. Carlton Winters, and Bro. Jay Stratton officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be observed at the gravesite by VFW Post 4075. The family will receive friends at North Fork Baptist Church from 4:00 p.m. " 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 26, 2016. Mr. Lewis was born in Frankfort, Kentucky on May 27, 1924 to the late Robert and Rachel Brawner Lewis. He was united in marriage to his loving wife of 67 years, Saragarnett Hutcherson Lewis, who preceded him in death. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving on the USS Liberty during WWII. He was a retired supervisor for the National Distillery and Chemical Corporation. He was an active member of North Fork Baptist Church in which he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He was proud to be the President of the Switzer Ruritan Club, which he chartered in 1970. He was also very talented, spending most of his early life as a mechanic and later on doing woodworking. He loved and cherished his family dearly. Along with his parents and wife, Saragarnett, he was preceded in death by his son, Charles (Buddy) Lewis. Mr. Lewis is survived by his daughter, Susan Sparrow and husband Roger; by his daughter-in-law, Antoinette Lewis; by his grandsons, Casey Sparrow and wife, Lisa, Kyle Sparrow and wife Jaime, Cory Sparrow and wife Rachel, Kip Sparrow, Charlie Scott Lewis and wife Melinda, and Rob Lewis and wife Kelley; by three brothers and two sisters. He was also blessed with ten great-grandchildren, whom he treasured. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandchildren.
