Elder Sammy Leon Leonard

Elder Sammy Leon Leonard, Sr., age 77, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Funeral Services for Elder Leonard will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Word of Faith Apostolic Church with Suffragan Bishop Verdell Jones, Sr. officiating. Burial will be at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, Kentucky. Military honors will be observed at the gravesite by the VFW Post #4075. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016. Elder Leonard was born in Louisville, Kentucky on July 21, 1939 to the late Sam and Lorena Gray Leonard. He was united in marriage to Johnnie W. Leonard, of Frankfort, Kentucky. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army. He was retired from the Kentucky State Department of Corrections. He was the pastor of Word of Faith Apostolic Church, whose faith was unshakeable. He was prideful and always strived for success and accomplishments. As an admirable man, he believed he could do anything he put his mind to. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Don Leonard and Lucille White. He is survived by his wife, Johnnie, by his sons, Derrick Harvey, Sammy Leonard, Jr., and Jamarr Keith Leonard, all of Frankfort; by his daughters, Bethany Nicole Leonard and Diane Nelson and her two sons; by his grandchildren, Malcolm Grant Armstrong, Jawuan D. Leonard, Janae D. Leonard, Nakyra D. Harvey, Angelnyia Carter, Jermonie Leonard, Kiarah Harvey, Raven Upchurch, and Blake Armstrong. He was also blessed with several nieces and nephews, and with a special niece, Jacqueline Jeffery, whom he loved like a daughter. Pallbearers will be Jawuan Leonard, Malcolm Armstrong, Paul Martin, Jr., Carroll Jones, Brandon Campbell, Jeremy McFadden, Bryant Holt, and Justin Holt. Honorary bearers will be Richard Smith, Robert Price, Dennis Jeffery, John Everett, Paul Martin, Sr., Donald Campbell, James "Champ� Neal, Gardner Yates, Elder Mac Paige, Elder Jesse David and Carlton Robinson. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Word of Faith Apostolic Church, 18 Reilly Road, Frankfort, Kentucky.
