Floyd Guy Gilbert

Frankfort - Services for Floyd Guy Gilbert, Sr. will be10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Colston and Dr. Bill Carter officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will be received at the church Monday evening from 5-8 p.m. Mr. Gilbert, age 90, passed away at home Friday, December 19, 2014. He was born in Franklin County August 24, 1924, the son of the late Kelly Guy and Mattie Monroe Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army. He retired from Genesco with 34 years of service and began another career with Kentucky State Government where he was a supervisor in the Department of Finance retiring after 27 years of service. He was a life member of VFW Post 4075 and a devoted member and Deacon Emeritus of Memorial Baptist Church. Survivors include his children, Glenda Faye Lynch (Barry), Floyd Guy Gilbert, Jr. (Elsie), Deborah Susan Yost (John); sister, Kathleen Daniels (the late, JB Daniels); brother-in-law, Arthur Neville Sheets; grandchildren, Eric Hite Yost (Jennifer), Marjorie Faye Yost Doyle, Kelly Lynn Gilbert, Christopher Raymond Lynch, Kevin Guy Gilbert, Brittany Michelle Austin (Charles Austin III); great grandchildren, Trevor Allen Yost, Caitlyn Marie Yost, Hunter Allen Warner, Evan Yost , Ethan Lynch and Jackson Carter Austin. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Sheets Gilbert who passed away March 10, 2014; grandson, John Hite Yost; great granddaughter, Hannah Marie Warner; and brother, Coleman Dudley Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert''s family offers appreciation for the loving care shown to their father by the staffs of Hospice of the Bluegrass, Frankfort Regional Medical Center, VA Hospital - Lexington and to his physician for over 40 years, Dr. Taha. Pallbearers are Floyd Guy Gilbert, Jr., Barry Lynch, John Hite Yost and the grandchildren. A special friend, George Bennett, Charles Austin III, Chris Smith, Carl Hockensmith, and the Deacons of Memorial Baptist Church are being recognized as Honorary Bearers.
