Frankfort " George Gay Roberts, age 87, passed away at home Monday, June 19, 2017.Services for Mr. Roberts will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. Jay Stratton officiating. Burial will follow at Switzer Cemetery. Military honors will be observed at the gravesite by the VFW Post 4075. Visitation will be held at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home on Friday, June 23, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The eldest son of the late George William and Mary Ann Eaves Roberts, he grew up on Lanark Farm on Old Frankfort Pike. Mr. Roberts served in the United States Air Force from October 11, 1950, through November 15, 1954, as a Radio Operator stationed in Europe during the Korean War. He was employed by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources as Conservation Officer in Fayette County, Supervisor of the 6th District and Assistant Director of Law Enforcement from December 1954 through September 1989. He was a life member and supporter of the Bluegrass Sportsmen�s League and League of Kentucky Sportsmen, a life-long sportsman and proponent of sportsmen and women in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. After retirement, he became an avid golfer, spending nearly every day at the Wild Turkey Trace Golf Course, where he made two memorable hole-in-one shots. The consummate family man, he passed his love of golf to his two sons and his love of teaching children to be outdoorsmen and women to his daughter. He enjoyed rabbit, squirrel and turkey hunting, frog gigging and fishing. His wild game recipes have been passed down for enjoyment by the next generation of hunters and anglers. He is survived by his children, David Roberts (Julia), Marke Roberts (Brenda), and LuAnn Johnson (Charles); siblings, Owen Roberts (Patty) and Corrine Duvall (George); grandchildren, Zakary Johnson, Jessica Johnson, Greyson Roberts and Morgen Roberts; and by multiple nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Bluegrass Hospice Care, 663 Teton Trail, Frankfort, KY 40601. Arrangements are under the direction of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home.
