James Wylie Hughes

James Wylie Hughes, 84, of Frankfort passed away Sunday evening at his home following a long and courageous battle with cancer and other health conditions. Services for Mr. Hughes will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services will be officiated by Reverend Jon Sutphin of Capital City Christian Church. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with Masonic Services being conducted at 7:00 p.m. The lodge will open at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Hughes was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Shrine Club, Scottish Rite, Masonic Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. He retired in 1980 from the United States Bureau of Prisons. He was also a small business operator in Frankfort as owner of Holmes Street Gulf and Jimmy''s Bait Shop. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending the winter months in Okeechobee, Florida for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Kathleen Hulette Hughes. He was also preceded by his parents, John William and Iva Harrod Hughes, brother, William Wade Hughes, and sisters, Leona Shipp and Mary Charles Hunter. He is survived by his six children: Jim (Marinell) Hughes, David (Andrea) Hughes, Kathy (Danny) Molen, Danny Hughes, Marsha (Keith) Hall and Melissa Hughes. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Frank, Mason and Jerry Hughes and a sister, Irene Waits. Active bearers will be Danny Molen, Keith Hall, and his grandsons, Kris Hughes, Michael Hughes, David Hughes, Jr., Donald Hughes, Jody Hughes, Morgan Crutchfield, James Hughes and Will Molen. Honorary bearers will be Don Tyson, Hubert Hoover, L.T. Harrod, Roy Rudder, Tera Martin, Carl Holbrook, the staff of Cardiac Rehabilitation, and his granddaughters, Jessica Hughes, Erin Hughes, Amanda Hughes, Danielle Sweeney, Sarah Crutchfield, Katie Hughes and Tiffany Hughes. Flowers are welcome and the family also welcomes expressions of sympathy to Hospice of the Bluegrass or the Franklin County Relay for Life. Arrangements are under the direction of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home.
