Juanita Owens Duvall

Frankfort – Juanita Owens Duvall, 94, slipped gently into the arms of Jesus on October 22, 2025, Owenton Healthcare and Rehabilitation facility in Owenton. She was born July 9, 1931, at her paternal grandparents’ home in rural Mason County, Kentucky, the fourth of seven children born to Carrie (Reeves) and (Robert) Pierce Owens. She was reared in Bracken County, on Salem Ridge near Brooskville. The family raised tobacco, poultry, and livestock, including dairy cows. After high school, she married Frank Shelby Duvall, of Albany, Kentucky, and they had three children: Barbara, (Frank) Shelby, Jr., and Don; all of whom grew up in Frankfort. How she loved them! She was a faithful and devoted member of Thornhill Baptist Church for over 50 years, where she taught children, participated in women’s ministries and sang in the choir. Music was her special love and she played piano by ear from the time she was a child. She ministered regularly to her community and neighbors in many ways, including service with the Red Cross, the soup kitchen, and regular visitation and musical entertainment at area nursing homes. But most of all, she loved Jesus. Preceding her in death were Frank, her beloved husband of 50 years; her precious sons, Don and Shelby; her parents, and all six of her siblings. She is mourned by her daughter, Barbara Duvall Allen; and grandchildren, Emily Rose Isaac (Erik), and children, all of Fort Worth, Texas; Benjamin Shelby Allen, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Leah K. Redden (Rick) and children, and Jenna Shelby Braden (Jarrod), and children, all of Frankfort. In addition, she leaves behind beloved nieces and nephews in several states and dear friends. Services will be held at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home on Monday, October 27, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Tony Elam officiating. Entombment may follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Monday. Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all her kind caregivers in Frankfort and Owenton, and especially her wonderful Thornhill neighbors. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the local Meals on Wheels program, 202 Medical Heights Dr, Frankfort, KY 40601, which was a bright spot for Mrs. Duvall in her later years. Arrangements are under the direction of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home & Crematory.
