Karen Hoover

Karen Malone Hoover, aged 87, passed away unexpectedly on September 26, 2024. She was born on May 27,1937 in Tucson Arizona to Ralph and Floradel Malone. She graduated from Amphitheater High School and furthered her education at the University of Arizona and the University of Kentucky. She met and married Jack H. Hoover in 1957 and moved to Frankfort, where they started a family and built a loving life together. She worked for the Kentucky State government in the Legislative Research Commission, where she retired after many years of service. Karen was a beloved figure in her community, known for her kindness, wisdom and humorous spirit, freely sharing her wit and wisdom with those around her. She truly never met a stranger. She always found joy engaging in conversation with family and (new)friends. An artist at heart, Karen had many talents. She was a dancer, a gifted and generous painter, a dedicated gardener and a slayer of crossword puzzles. She greatly enjoyed shopping for art and antiques with her family and friends. Her love for cooking and entertaining made her home a warm and inviting place, where conversations and laughter were always in abundance. She was a devout member of the Church of the Ascension in Frankfort, where she actively contributed her talents and time. She leaves behind a loving family: son, Dr. Taylor H. Hoover, and his wife, Missy Hoover; daughter, Meaghan H. Barnett and her husband, COL(R) William M. Barnett IV; grandchildren, William M. Barnett V and his wife, Katy, Michal A. Barnett, J. Nelson Hoover and Hayden H. Hoover; great-granddaughter, Kacey E. Barnett; and her brother, Barry Malone. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Jack H. Hoover, her parents, Floradel and Ralph Malone and her sister, Shirley Vanek. A brief prayer service and memorial will be held in her honor at the Church of the Ascension in Frankfort on November 2, 2024, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Church of the Ascension or the Frankfort Humane Society in memory of Karen Hoover, celebrating her life and her love for her community. Arrangements are under the direction of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home & Crematory.
