Lelia Mae Samuels Calhoun

Frankfort – Lelia Mae Samuels Calhoun, age 88, passed away at home on Monday, September 26, 2022. Services will be held at Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. LaVeeshia Pryor and Rev. Donald Townsend officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mrs. Calhoun was born in Millville, Kentucky aka “Little Germany” on July 9, 1934, to the late Rev. Brady Taylor and Mary Catherine Lampkins Samuels. She graduated as Valedictorian from Simmons High School and attended Kentucky State University. Following, she worked at Kings Daughters Hospital and oversaw vaccines statewide for the Kentucky Department of Human Resources. She was a lifelong resident of South Frankfort where she enjoyed serving as a playground director at Murray Street School and crosswalk guard for the City of Frankfort. She served as Church Clerk for 25 years at Corinthian Baptist Church and attended St. John A.M. E. for the last 37 years. She enjoyed playing cards, games, and especially loved Bingo. Mrs. Calhoun was known as a top-notch cook by all her family and friends. She loved sitting on her porch and enjoying her beloved flowers. She will be remembered for her good advice, loving personality, and strength. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Gloria Calhoun and Mary Calhoun Maxwell; special sons, William “Billy” Stone and Robert “Bobby” Stone; grandchildren, Tynisha Calhoun and Raheem Maxwell; great-grandchildren, Blare` Calhoun, LaCreasha Calhoun, Armeon Calhoun-White, Khloee Calhoun-White, Parris Calhoun-Johnson, LeAir Maxwell, and Rah`Nyla Maxwell; great-great grandchildren, KaMari Calhoun, Kyng Calhoun, Jahlani Radcliff, Jaylin Calhoun-Radcliff, and Jakhari Calhoun; and special grandson, Gerald Newton. She was also blessed with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eugene Calhoun; son, Eric Calhoun; and by her siblings, William Samuels, Shirley Reed, Mattie McGrapth, Dorothy Graham, and Inetta Hudspeth. Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Bluegrass Hospice Care. Arrangements are under the direction of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home & Crematory.
