Marian Henrietta Jewell

Marian Henrietta Jennings Jewell, a long-time resident of Frankfort, died Friday, June 12, 2015. Marian was born in 1926 in Spencer County, Kentucky, to Lillie and Henry Jennings and married Ansel (Buck) Jewell in 1944. Her sister Rubye Jennings Sutherland (Joe), brother William H. Jennings (Wilma), as well as her nephews Harvey Jennings, William Sutherland, and Joe Sutherland all preceded her in death. Marian began her career at Smith McKinney Drug (1941-1942) and Bradbury Drug (1942-1944) in Shelbyville, Kentucky. She worked in downtown Frankfort at LeCompte and Gayle Drug store (1945-1954) and for Doctors Harry J. Cowherd and Donald Howard from 1954-1967. In 1967, she began a 30-year career as a small business owner of the Mari-Anna Gift Shop, selling antique reproduction furniture, gifts, and candy supplies, as well as serving as a wedding coordinator and providing wedding equipment rental, invitations, and accessories. After selling her business in 1997, Marian worked briefly for Kelliann Antiques and completed her career as an associate at the Frankfort Walmart, where she was employed from 1997 as a door greeter until her death. Faithful to her church and the Bridgeport community, Marian was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church for 66 years, where she taught primary, juniors, YWA, and children''s church and was a door greeter for 35 years. She is survived by her daughter Fran Jewell Luscher (Michael); her granddaughters, Amy Luscher Smith (Scott), Jenny Luscher, Cindy Luscher McCann (John); and five great-grandchildren, Hannah Smith, Ben Smith, Sophie Smith, Emilee McCann, and Eli McCann. Visitation will be at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home on Monday, June15, from 5-8 p.m., and on Tuesday, June 16, from 9-11 a.m., with funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, Kentucky. Honorary pallbearers will be Anna Winters; Libby Tracy; Courtney Tracy; Hospice of the Bluegrass--Red Team; and the associates of Wal-Mart, Frankfort. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Marian''s memory may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass or First Baptist Church, Frankfort, Children''s Ministry-Godly Play.
