Robert Edward Redmon

It is with great sadness that we make known Robert Edward Redmon, 62, a previous sergeant serving in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Corrections Department, passed in the early hours of March 31, 2023. Robert passed at home in Frankfort, Kentucky, after a lingering illness. He was born on January 19, 1961, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Roy Junior Redmon, Frankfort, Kentucky and the late Martha Caridad Heredia, Lemoore, California. Robert attended high school in Lemoore, California. During high school Robert was an avid tennis player on the high school tennis team. Not long after graduation, in a desire to serve his country, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Robert, a USAF Presidential Honor Guard served at Anacostia-Boiling Air Force Base in Washington D.C., shielding our nation’s capital, and our nation’s most hallowed grounds, Arlington National Cemetery. At a young age, Robert developed a lifelong passion for photography. Later in life, he found another passion, raising “Blood Hounds,” as he enjoyed some of his fondest pastimes. But his greatest enjoyment was truly living life through his grandchildren, nothing could compare to his devotion. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, George A. Redmon, (1955-2016) California, his brother, Larry S. Redmon, Sr., (1955-1991), California, his brother, Karl W. Redmon, (1964-2015), California. Surviving, his loss, Robert’s dearly beloved wife of twenty-four years, Sherilyn Smith-Redmon, his devoted daughters, Ashley Redmon-Newton; Tabatha Redmon-Baxter; stepson, Troy W. Ballard; stepdaughter’s Whitney Smalley-Napper, and Catherine Smalley. In addition, Robert is survived by two loving sisters, Anna Redmon-Masse, Missouri, and Sandy Redmon-Sholley, of Pennsylvania. Other family members surviving are Teresa Redmon, stepmother, Kentucky, along with ten (10) brilliant grandchildren; Krystal Ballard, Gunner Ballard, Robert Redmon, Teddy Redmon, Camden Redmon, Nathan Spellman, Mykenzie Baxter, Evelyn Newton, Chloe Napper, Jaxon Baxter and two caring nephews Michael Gannon-McFearin, Virginia, and Anthony Webb, Missouri. Private family services will be held at a future date, in Point Lookout, Maryland. Robert’s favorite memorable childhood home. The ceremonial guardsmen is an individual of good reputation, having integrity, ethical conduct and exhibiting standards which merit respect; responsible for protecting and overseeing the maintenance of standards on and off duty. It is truly an occupation which requires outstanding devotion and commitment to duty. By maintaining our history and exceptionally high standards, honor guards will continue to remain an icon of excellence. Handpicked to serve as a member of the United States Air Force Honor Guard, my standards of conduct and level of professionalism must be above reproach, for I represent all others in my service. Others earned the right for me to wear the ceremonial uniform, one that is honored in a rich tradition and history. I will honor their memory by wearing it properly and proudly. Never will I allow my performance to be dictated by the type of ceremony, severity of the temperature, or size of the crowd. I will remain superbly conditioned to perfect all movements throughout every drill and ceremony. Obligated by my oath, I am constantly driven to excel by a deep devotion to duty and a strong sense of dedication. Representing every member, past and present, of the United States Air Force, I vow to stand SHARP, CRISP and MOTIONLESS, for I am a ceremonial guardsman!
