October 25, 1940 - November 25, 2018
Peggy Jo Crump Burch 10/25/1940 ~ 11/25/2018 Peggy passed away peacefully yet unexpectedly on Sunday in Lexington, KY. She was born in Oklahoma City, OK to Joseph Dean and Ruth Albright Crump. She spent her formative years in Locust Grove, Salina, Anadarko and back to Oklahoma City, OK before moving to Austin, TX where she attended High School. As her father was a Federal Auditor he had the choice of moving to three places, including the Virgin Islands, but decided on Frankfort KY where Peggy attended Frankfort High School with her brother Jerry who was 2 years her senior. She absolutely loved this period of her life as she felt her peers, many of which became lifelong friends, were so welcoming and made her transition to her new hometown easy. Upon graduating from high school, Peggy attended the University of Kentucky as an art major and pledged Kappa Delta before getting married and starting a family. Peggy enjoyed many things including long rides in the country while listening to 50’s music, Jerry Lee Lewis, Merle Haggard and Elvis Presley whom she met when she was 14. She also enjoyed playing Yahtzee with her grandchildren, genealogy and exploring cemeteries. Peggy was an accomplished artist whose calligraphy work was unrivaled. She was very creative and had a knack for repurposing things long before it was in vogue to do so. She had a fondness for antiques and refinishing things while tackling projects with skill and passion. Her love of and talent for art put her on a career path which eventually led to the Department of Human Resources where she was only 1 of 3 graphic artists for the State of Kentucky. She thoroughly enjoyed her job and became friends with many of her coworkers, including her future daughter-in-law Barbara whom she claimed as her own. Peggy celebrated her 78th birthday, exactly one month before her death, with many of her cherished family members. Her birthday celebration included her son, Fred W. Burch IV and daughter Nancy Burch Kinnaman. Also in attendance were Fred’s wife Barbara, her three grandchildren Fred W. Burch V (Rachael), Kennedy Burch Bowman (Austin), Hunter Slone Kinnaman and two great-grandchildren, Riley Ann and Bailey Paige Bowman. Peggy also leaves behind her beloved brother Gerald F. Crump (Dorothy), nephew Jerry Crump (Tina), ex-husband Fred W. Burch III and brother-in-law “Uncle” Jack C. Burch. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents Ruth and Joe, son-in-law Craig Michael Kinnaman, grandson Fisher Taft Kinnaman and her dearest companion Stewart Barnes. There will be no services as per her request. She would have encouraged any donations be made locally and to the charity of one’s choice. Any condolences can be directed to 112 Myrtle Avenue, Frankfort, KY 40601, c/o Fred W. Burch IV. We would like to send a special thank you to all the staff at Baptist Health (Central Baptist Health) in Lexington for their compassion and care for not only Mom but our family as well. Also, thank you to Austin Bowman whose help and guidance will not be forgotten. Peggy was a woman of class and distinction. She enjoyed life with an artistic heart and a humorous soul. Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort in the belief that we will see her again. Sleep tight Mom and “haunt” us like you promised. Arrangements are under the direction of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home. Condolences may be shared via the online guestbook at www.harrodbrothers.com
