Alice Darnell Townsend

Frankfort – Alice Lynn Darnell Townsend, age 65, departed this life on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, in Eliot, Maine. Services will be held at First Baptist Church on Clinton Street in Frankfort, Kentucky, on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Nathl L. Moore and Bishop Tiangello T. Hill officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. She was born in Fleming County, Kentucky to the late Charles McGarvey Darnell, Jr. and Nina Wagoner Darnell on September 30, 1958. She attended Woodford County High School, graduating in 1976. She was a member of Future Teachers of America, Pep Band, Y-Teens, French Club, Beta Club, Girls Basketball, and National Honors Society. Alice was a member of First African Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky. On Sunday, December 24, 2000, Alice became the First Lady at Polk Memorial Baptist Church in Mortonsville, Kentucky. She was quiet and classy. Alice was united in marriage to Reverend Donald Thomas Townsend, Sr. on January 30, 1978, in Frankfort, Kentucky. To that union, two children were born, a daughter, Nadia Townsend Green, and Donald Thomas Townsend, Jr. Alice’s passions included reading romance novels, loving the University of Kentucky Wildcats sports, traveling, Willow the Cat on Facebook, holidays, and her family. She leaves behind her loving husband of 46 years, Donald T. Townsend, Sr.; daughter, Nadia L. Green (Eric) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; son, Donald “Tommy” Townsend, Jr. of Lexington, Kentucky; future daughter-in-law, Alexandra Paige Burns of Lexington, Kentucky; brother, Charles “Chuck” M. Darnell III of Apopka, Florida; grandchildren, Maurisa, Erica, Eric K., Emaya, Eric M., and Dominick, and a host of nieces, nephews, dear friends, and church family. Serving as pallbearers will be Maurice Shands, Troy Gaines, Deacon Timothy Bradley, Joseph Carter, Deacon Floyd Raglin, and DeRone Weathers. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons and Trustees of Polk Memorial Baptist Church and Deacons and Trustees of First Baptist Church, as well as Tequan Shands, Cameron Kennedy, and Albert Chase. Arrangements are under the direction of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home & Crematory.
