Barbara King Green

Barbara King Green, age 91, went to be with the Lord on December 10, 2023. Barbara was born in Frankfort, Kentucky on November 15, 1932, to Brian Hugh and Jenny King. She was the oldest of three daughters, all preceded her in death. Barbara graduated from Good Shepherd High School where she played basketball. She worked for the Kentucky State Government until her marriage in 1955, followed by a successful career as a loving wife and mother of eight children. Barbara loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted and ever-loving mother who always remained calm and provided direction through every storm, tornado, and chaos her children would engage. She dedicated her life to her family and was often called a highway inspector as she taxied her kids from one activity to another. Barbara loved working the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle, watching movies, especially a good comedy, and studying the Bible and praying for others. She was beautiful, funny, kind, full of love, always welcoming, and possessed a beautiful laugh. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Scott Thomas Green, and two sons, Mark Scott Green and Martin Russell Green. She is survived by her children, Karen Wood (David), Kelly Green, Matthew Green (Lisa), Michael Green, Kay McCarty (Gary), and Mitchell Green (Ginny). She leaves behind eleven grandchildren, Christopher Green (Amy), Ryan McCready, Alex Wood (Lindsey), John Wood, Christina McCarty Brunty (Cameron), Jeremy Green (Heather), Carrie McCarty, Hannah Green, Seth Green, Maeve Green, and Henry Green, and five great-grandchildren, Bennett Green, Cooper Green, Emma Wood, Gwendolyn Brunty and Sebastian Brunty. A private graveside service will be held. Serving as pallbearers will be Christopher Green, Alex Wood, John Wood, Seth Green, Henry Green, Gary McCarty, and Cameron Brunty. Honorary pallbearers will be David Wood, Jeremy Green, and Donald Bryan. The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful care and help given by Bluegrass Care Navigators and the 4th floor staff at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Bluegrass Care Navigators, 643 Teton Trail, Frankfort, KY 40601. Arrangements are under the direction of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home & Crematory.
