George Anna Collins

Frankfort – George Anna Collins, 99, passed away January 16 at Taylor Manor Nursing Home with family and Fr. Frank Sherry by her side. A visitation will be held at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2025. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church celebrated by Father Frank Brawner at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 27, 2025. Burial will follow at Frankfort Cemetery. She was born in Cleveland, Tennessee while her father was working as a pharmacist. She was married to former Franklin County Clerk, David C. Collins after his return from WWII until his death in 1989. A voracious reader with near total recall, George Anna declined a college scholarship so a Good Shepherd High School classmate who was not “getting married” could use it. Her abilities drew her to legal work for the firm McChesney, Kinker and Pierce, then as appointment as the Deputy Clerk of the Kentucky Senate and then to Business Manager of the Kentucky Democratic Party, retiring from the Office of General Counsel KYTC. Her sharp and critical wit was well known with both family and colleagues, even to once “informing” her boss, State Democratic Party Chairman, Paul Patton that he “needed a haircut.” While being completely dedicated to her children and grandchildren, she found time to serve in various church and community roles in Frankfort, Kentucky and Auburn, Alabama such as President of the Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Post 4075. Her children include Steve Collins (Becky), Richard Collins (Caroline) and Debra Taylor (Seth). The grandchildren are Robert Collins (April), Beth Collins, Alice Collins Mettille (Joe), Aaron Collins, Will Collins (Taylor), Will Ruffin (Ashton), David Ruffin (Sarah), Ben Ruffin (Kaitlyn) and Collins Taylor. Great grandchildren are Cole Collins, Sam Collins, Ty Harrod, Ernie Mettille, Brawner Collins, Josie Collins, Gigi Collins, Avery Collins, Belle Collins, Emmett Collins, Beau Collins, Levi Ruffin, Faith Ruffin, Ava Ruffin, Belle Ruffin, Prather Ruffin and Clyde Ruffin. Great-great grandchildren are Gracelyn Collins, Jett Vest-Collins and Garrett Collins, in addition, nieces and nephews in her sister, (deceased) Carol Word’s lineage are John Milton, Ruth Carleton, Dennis Milton, Martin Milton and their children and Sister-in-Law Billie Marie Rice and her daughter, Janet. Preceding her in death, besides her husband and her sister, were her father and mother, George B. Power and Anna E. Power. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Good Shepherd School, 75 Shepherd Way, Frankfort, Kentucky 40601 or Saint Michael’s Catholic School, 1100 North College Street, Auburn, Alabama 36830.
