Lawrence Edward Washington

Frankfort " Lawrence Edward Washington, affectionately called "Smoke�, was born February 17, 1941, in Franklin County, KY, to the late John Henry and Annie Turner Washington. He departed this life Monday, March 19, 2012, at Kindred Hospital in Louisville, KY with his loving and devoted companion, Geraldine Jette, by his side. Lawrence left school at an early age. He started working with Charles Schwartz at Magee�s Bakery on East Main Street, Frankfort, KY, for many years and then worked at Magee�s in Lexington, KY winning many awards for his decorating skills and for his baked goods. He was well known for his famous CHESS PIES AND COBBLERS. He worked for Marriott and Aramark at Kentucky State University for over 30 years. Many students grew to love him and his desserts, cookies, cakes and pies. Lawrence also had a passion for hunting, fishing and the race track. :) He and Mark Wendell (the son he never had) along with others planned trips yearly just to do what they loved to do as well as shoot the breeze with one another. He is survived by two daughters from a previous marriage, Larma Jean Washington of Frankfort, KY and Tammy Ann Washington of Dayton, OH, and their mother, Mary Washington, Lawrenceburg, KY; three grandchildren, Lauren B. Washington of Indianapolis, IN, Anna Ja�Vaughn Washington of Frankfort, KY and Darius Jerome Everett of Dayton, OH; and one great grandson, Laurence C. Allen, whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by three sisters, Dorothy Washington, Johnetta Jackson, and Margaret Lewis, all of Frankfort, KY, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Lawrence also had an extended family with the Jettes and Hamiltons, and especially the grandson, Jamal Jette. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Anna Louise Harris, Frankfort, KY and Mary Elizabeth Gray, Jeffersonville, IN; brother, James Henry, Frankfort, KY, and a cousin, Ernest Carter, Jeffersonville, IN. Services for Lawrence will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2012, at Harrod Brothers Memorial Chapel. Pastor Jahavich Henderson, Pastor of Highland Missionary Baptist Church, Terre Haute, IN will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the service at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home.
