Lloyd Martin Mahoney

Lloyd Martin Mahoney, age 84, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 26, 2015. Born in Louisville, Ky. to the late Lula Ross and Cletus Augustus Mahoney he settled in Frankfort after service in the U.S. Navy and earning a civil engineering degree from the University of Louisville. Lloyd worked as a bridge designer for the state of Kentucky before retiring to pursue a second love as an airplane mechanic and pilot. He loved his small farm in Franklin County where his large family enjoyed a country life. Lloyd was an active member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Frankfort. He was a past member of the Bridgeport Ruritan Club and was always willing to help anyone in need. He also was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). Lloyd is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Jean Ober Mahoney, and his children Linda Winkle (Kenny), Diana Hedden (Steve), Angela Mitchell (Charlie Pearl), Paula Murphy (Shaun), David Mahoney (Karen Yancey) and Julie Collins (Tim). He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Mahoney and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Hedden, a sister Emma Price and brother, Forest Mahoney. Surviving grandchildren are Jonathan Winkle (Brianne Harrod), Amy Parker (Joseph), Hope Hedden, Joshua Hedden (Lora Smith), Sarah Mitchell, Nathan Mitchell, Katie Mitchell, Anna Murphy, James Murphy, Tyler Mahoney, Chase Mahoney, William Collins and Emma Collins. Granddaddy and Papaw will be greatly missed by them and his great-grandchildren, Brooke McDonald, Linkin and Piper Azbill, Matthew and Kennedy Hedden, Hailey and Austin Parker. Services will be 12:00 p.m. Monday at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. The Rev. Charles Howell will officiate. Burial will be in Frankfort Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home and at the church on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the service at noon. Pallbearers are Jonathan Winkle, Joshua Hedden, Nathan Mitchell, James Murphy, Tyler Mahoney, Chase Mahoney and William Collins.
