Shirley Parker Tillett

Frankfort - Shirley Parker Tillett "Nana", 79, was peacefully carried home by her Lord and Savior, with her family close to her side, on Sunday, September 20, 2015. Mrs. Tillett was born on October 20, 1935, in Frankfort, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Archie and Elsie Parker and her beloved husband of 56 years, Thomas Tillett, Sr. "Pops". Mrs. Tillett was an only child and is survived by her three children; Kimberley Holloway (Barry) of Frankfort, Thomas L. Tillett, Jr. (Paula) of White Pine, Tennessee and Melinda Stephens (Mitchell) also of Frankfort; five grandchildren, Brandon Greggory Muravchick (Julie), Justin Thomas Muravchick (Leslie), Thomas "Trae" Tillett, III (Tosha), Matthew Parker Stephens (Kim) and Mollie Carole Stephens; three great grandchildren, Makayla and Emilee Muravchick and Levi Stephens; and her precious teacup yorkie, Chigger. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends that she loved dearly. Having lost her hearing to measles at age three, Mrs. Tillett overcame that and many obstacles to serve 32 years in State Government with the Kentucky Department of Education. She and Pops retired in 1987 to Naples, Florida for six years and returned to Frankfort to be closer to their family that they loved so much. She loved the beach, reading, sewing, crocheting and cross stitching (where she won many ribbons at the fair) and traveling anytime, anywhere. She loved UK basketball, flowers, chocolate, birds and her favorite color was purple. Despite her hearing loss, she loved to be around people and entertain. She loved life, but more than anything, she loved her Lord and was a member of the Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church. In addition to being a devoted wife and loving and supportive mother to her children, she was also always there for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Cheering at a ball field or professional wrestling event, attending dance and piano recitals, and chorus concerts or birthday parties, she was always there. It was most important to Nana to make every day special, whether it was someone''s birthday or just the first day of the changing season. Mrs. Tillett has now touched the face of Jesus and is reunited with Pops and other family she loved dearly. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her or knew of her. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2015, at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home in Frankfort, with Reverend Todd Lester officiating and special prayer by Reverend Andy Lawrence. Burial will follow at Frankfort Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 10:30 a.m. Pallbearers are Nana's five grandchildren, Brandon, Trae, Matthew, Justin and Mollie. Honorary bearers will be her three great grandchildren, Makayla, Emilee and Levi; her special friends, Willie and Nancy Moore; and her life-long friends who have remained close as sisters all through the years, Carole South Roe, Wanda Moore Lippert and Betty Moses Dawkins.
