William Howard Gosney

Frankfort - William Howard "Bill� Gosney was called home by his Lord and Savior from Frankfort Regional Medical Center on Monday, August 8, 2011. He was born in Dayton, Kentucky on Flag Day, June 14, 1948 to the late Ernest Gosney, Jr and Edna Ruth Gosney (Riddle) of Mentor, Kentucky. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sandra Kay Gosney (Woods) affectionately called "Pug� by Bill; three daughters: Kimberly Gail Sowers (Eric) of Wilmore, Kentucky, Kathleen Denise "Kathy� Gosney of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, Kerry Lea Gosney (Scott Milone) of Corning, NY, a son, Kayce Neil Gosney (Kim Manns) of Frankfort, Kentucky; three sisters: Anita Sue Bartz (Bruce) Marjorie Ruth Sheffel (Gary) and Margaret Ann Gosney all of Mentor, Kentucky; two aunts: Jean Helen Rardin of Columbus, Ohio and Harriett Smith (Ed) of Lebanon, Ohio, three cousins: Billie Jean Rardin of Columbus, OH, Donn Rardin of Sarasota, FL and Janice Caldwell of Beltsville, MD; five grandchildren: Ashley Ann, Logan Lee, Grace Meredith, and John Spencer Sowers of Wilmore, Kentucky and Kristopher Stone Hammond of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky; father-in-law Bernard Woods, Sr. (Edna Jane Woods " deceased and Jeanette Rion Woods) of Lexington, Kentucky, one sister "in-law, Mae Belle Lewis (Bobby-deceased), two brothers "in-law Bernard Woods, Jr (Angie) of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky and Lindsay Stuart Thurman (Brenda) of Frankfort, Kentucky, several nieces and nephews and a very special lady to the family, Shirley Miller, who cared for Bill when he was ill and his wife was working. He was a long-time member of Buck Run Baptist Church. He served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, usher, member of the Sanctuary choir and went on several mission trips with the church in Kentucky and five mission trips to Romania during those years. He and his family hosted three foreign exchange students from the country of Moldova over a three-year period of time: Vitalie Bezdiga, Victor Ceban and Olga Popescu. He loved music, both vocal and instrumental (classical and jazz). He played the trombone and baritone while in high school and college and timpani with the Capital City Band for a short time. He was a great lover of trains, both real and model, having grown up 100 yards from the C&O tracks in Mentor, Kentucky. He could remember seeing a steam engine on the tracks. Visitation and the funeral service will be at Buck Run Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 on Wednesday, August 10th. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 11th at the church. Dr. Hershael York, Pastor of Buck Run Baptist Church will conduct the services. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of the deacons of Buck Run Baptist, past and present. Active Pallbearers will be Todd Hutcherson, Doug Graham, Pete Wright, Pete Mitchell, Bobby Casey, Bruce McCutcheon and Stuart Clark as an alternate, if needed. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Embracing His Move, Buck Run Baptist Church, 3894 Georgetown Road, Frankfort, KY 40601, or to Hospice of the Bluegrass/Frankfort Office, 663 Teton Trail, Frankfort, KY 40601. Arrangements are under the direction of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home.
